Italian dining — Osaka, Higashi-Tenma

ito yoiyoi
Mangia bene,
bevi bene.
Eat well, drink well.
Another good day.

Written 伊と酔々。 and read ito yoiyoi.
Both halves of the name mean three things at once.
Ito is the thread that ties one person to the next. It also means very. And it begins the word Italian.
Yoiyoi is good, and evening, and pleasantly merry.
Very good Italian food, a good drink, a good evening — and a day you are glad you had.
That was the shop we wanted, so that is the name we gave it.
The two figures facing each other inside the circle of the logo are that thread.
An Italian kitchen does not have to mean wine.
Heineken, Jameson, shiso shochu — whatever you actually feel like.
Tell us what you like drinking.
Seventy-one bottles — beer, whisky, gin, shochu, sparkling wine.
Not what an Italian restaurant is supposed to pour. What people actually ask for.
If you are not sure, just tell us how the day went.

* A selection. The line-up moves with the deliveries.

Carbonara the Roman way, with no cream at all. Bread crisp at the crust and chewy through the middle.
Unfussy food that still takes exactly as long as it takes.

No cream. Egg and cheese alone, the way it is made there.

The sharpness of the tomatoes, wrapped in something richer.

The chilli you expect, softened by pork and sweet peppers.

Bread crisp outside, soft inside — and the oil is the best part.

Smooth rillettes and bright vegetables on one piece of bread.

Crisp at the edge, floury in the middle. Hard to stop at one.

Shredded potato pressed thin and crisped, then cheese and basil.

Crisp at the rim, soft in the centre, the pork caught in the cheese.

Bare concrete overhead, solid timber along the counter.
The big window onto the street lets the afternoon in.
At night the lights come down and the room slows.

You can take the entire floor for your own party.
There is a 50-inch monitor, so meetups, screenings and match nights all work here.
